For over 20 years, the Martin family have been growing Christmas trees on the family farm in the townland of Legananny in the Dromara Hills. The farm is located on the slopes of Slieve Croob close to Legananny Dolmen. The local growing conditions produce full-bodied trees with abundant foliage.
Over the years to meet the increasing demand for trees, we have steadily increased production. The type of trees grown has also been adapted to suit ever-changing customer tastes and lifestyles. Initially production centred on the “traditional Christmas tree,” the Norway Spruce. This species fell out of favour due to its habit of dropping large quantities of needles. Lodgepole Pine were also grown for a period but they tended to be bulky and took up too much space. The type of tree supplied at present are the low needle drop Noble and Nordmann Fir. These provide the customer with elegant conical shaped trees in a range of heights and widths to suit all room sizes.
Research has shown that the single biggest cause of needle drop in Christmas Trees is the length of time they have been cut. During the Christmas season, our trees are cut on the farm each week to ensure they are supplied fresh to your home.
This Christmas, Legananny Christmas Trees have teamed up with Thornleigh Fuels on the Moira Road Lisburn. Why not call in and see the selection? A delivery service will be available.
